Athlete & Team Connect
P R O J E C T D E S C R I P T I O N
A mobile application designed to digitally connect athletes, parents, coaches and teams.
MY ROLE:
Lead UX. Lead UI. Visual Design.
THE PROBLEM:
No single platform existed for the Youth Sports Market that enabled players, parents and coaches to communicate, schedule and manage activities. The challenge would be creating the new product without disrupting the existing activities of over 50 million combined users in 35 countries.
THE SOLUTION:
A mobile product that allows players, parents and coaches to communicate, schedule games, create teams and manage their activities from a single location and for unlimited seasons.
DISCOVERY PHASE:
As lead UX Architect on our team, I organized and scheduled interviews with the product owners and users of the pre-existing products acquired by Blue Star Sports in order to clearly understand current user habits, user flow and pain points. From this analysis we began to formulate a strategy to combine the valuable features of each product and eliminating the unnecessary features. Also key to BSS was the ability to own well organized and compartmentalized player data from a young age to pro level.
We established a number of goals and objectives:
• Create a “LinkedIn” like environment for athletes
• Provide a single resource to manage all aspects of athlete activities
• Create a easy to use communication tool for coaches
• Allow for scheduling of games and practices
• Ability to create new teams and rosters
• View game times, dates, locations and details
• Create photo albums for teams and individuals
Once we identified and mapped out the features and usability of the existing product portfolio, we proceeded to outline the features most needed and appreciated by users to craft a proposed feature list. A great deal of time was dedicated to interviewing users to confirm our recommendations were accurate. Upon approval, we continued with developing the new user flow and corresponding wireframes with continued and frequent prototyping and testing of each feature.
